Term 3

Wow what a busy start to Term 3 that we have had!  It's hard to believe that we are in Week 6 already, that means that half of the school year has passed.

  • In Week 2 and 3 we had Tennis Coaching
  • In Week 3 we had a Flava Day rotation as our Kapa Haka group went to Timaru to compete
  • In Week 5 we had a Netherby Talent Quest and what a lot of hidden talent we have in our classes.

Have a look at the slideshow below to see how busy we have been over the first half of this term.

A successful weekend for Ocean!

OCEAN WAITOKIA SINGS HER WAY TO VICTORY!

In my fascinating weekend, I went to Waimate.  In Waimate I entered the Country Music Awards.  I sang four different songs; I'd like to see Jesus on the midnight special, He taught me to yodel, Country girl with a rock 'n' roll heart and Cowboy sweet heart.  At 4.30pm the judges started the prize giving.  I got three awards; one for my country rock, one for my country solo and one for the junior runner up overall.

While I was down in Waimate I got to go up to the White Horse in the hills, the White Horse is a big stone.  It was very bumpy ride but I got a back  massage on the way up!

At last Gran and I came home to Ashburton.  We had to go the Event Centre to watch my sisters performance called Youth 4U!

Let it snow, let is snow, let it snow!

Week 7 at Ashburton Netherby School was the shortest of the school year so far!  We had the Monday off due to the Queen celebrating her birthday and then we all woke up on Wednesday morning to a wonderful white surprise so school was closed for the day.  Thursday at school was a day filled of making snowmen and having snowball fights as the field remained cover in the delicate white powder.  Before we knew it, Friday had rolled around and the end of the week was there.  Here are some creative pictures that the children of Room 1 took amongst the snow.

Well done Monaro

Music Festival!

We are only one week and two days out from performing on the biggest stage that Mid Canterbury has at the Heartland Mid Canterbury Music Festival.  The children have been practicing very hard for the past term and their performance is becoming well polished.  It would be great if you could come along and support all of the children as they sing for a huge audience on Thursday the 31st May.  Tickets can be purchased from the Ashburton Trust Event Centre for a cost of $12.00 or online at ticketdirect.co.nz.

When the teachers went on a course!

On Wednesday after school Miss Cruickshank, Miss Saunders, Miss Bishop and Mrs WF attended a workshop to learn about how to use iMovie in the classroom.  We learnt about all the excellent effects we can add to enhance our movie.  Check out the video below that Miss Cruickshank made.

CrOsS CoUnTrY!!

On Tuesday the 1st of May Netherby School headed for Chertsey to compete in the annual Cross Country event.  The Senior Syndicate had been training since last term and were hoping for some pleasing results. The weather wasn't fantastic but we weren't going to let that dampen our spirits as we boarded the bus and headed north.  Conversations were at a premium as the excitement levels grew.  It was all too much for Kotiti as he fell asleep not long after we departed.

WE HAD SOME GREAT RESULTS ACHIEVED.  WELL DONE TO         ALL THOSE CHILDREN THAT TRIED THEIR VERY BEST AND    DIDN'T STOP RUNNING FROM START TO FINISH.

It was pleasing to see that the Senior Syndicate had 13 children qualify for the County Cross County and they will run at the A and P Show grounds on the Friday 11th May.

Check out the iMovie below that Miss Cruickshank created, credit must be given to our fantastic photograph Andrena Skinner.

Room 1 welcomes Seluvaia Ratoul to their class this term.  Seluvaia has moved down from the North Island with her family where she attended Levin East School. She has made a great start to her learning at Netherby.  Charlie in Room 3 is Seluvaia cousin, so she was lucky enough to know someone as soon as she started.
We hope you are enjoying your new school Seluvaia!
