Writing!

TERM 2

W.A.L.T: construct an informative and detailed explanation.

For the start of this term we have been looking at explanation writing.  We have discussed key features that explanations must have and how to structure them correctly. 

As a class we have worked hard to construct two quality explanations about:

- how germs spread

- why coke erupts when mentos added

W.A.L.T: write and interesting and descriptive recount about our Term 1 holidays.  

Check back here soon to see the amazing job we did on our recounts.  This time we have really become writers and learnt how to include strong emotive language by including thoughts and feelings.  Miss Cruickshank was super impressed with the quality of writing we produced!

TERM 1

Room 1 children are currently writing persuasive arguments about 'Should Year 5 and 6 Netherby School children go on camp every year?'

In the holidays I went to my Nanas.  We had a fun time.  We went to Caroline Bay.  At Caroline Bay we went inside the bird aviary I did not see many birds because they were sleeping.  I played at the beach, we found a crab.  We had a yummy meal of chicken kebabs with mashed potatoes.  After seven days of fun… we went to Christchurch and picked Mum up.  Then we drove back to Ashburton.  Mum gave me a rubber snake and shorts that are green and black.  Then Mum told us about her tattoos.  She got candles.  After that we went home when we went in the gate I had mail I opened it.  It was an invitation to Sam’s birthday party.  We went inside and played on the Wii I played sonic.

Devon McGrath, Year 5

The first thing I did in the holidays was I went to Christchurch for Christmas.  We opened presents at 12.30.  The next thing I did was ho to Wainui for a week.  I went with my Aunty Nellie and Uncle Bill. I also went to Orari and I spent most of the time with the bunnies.  There were baby guinea pigs there were six of them.

My first thing about holidays is after we cleaned our house we played Playstation 2, me and Eiman played WWC 2006.  Then me and Eiman always team up in WWC.  Then we play NBA on Playstation, I always lose against my brother because Eiman plays basketball.  The next thing about my holidays is going fishing.  We went a long way to the beach at Rangitata.  Me, Dad, Eiman and Dads work mate started fishing, my Mum did not go fishing because she doesn’t have a fishing rod.  All four of us didn’t catch a fish, but Dad caught a little shark.  Then my Dad let the shark go to the sea.  Before Christmas we went to Christchurch.  We went to Riccarton Mall.  We looked at some shops that are cool then we ate at the malls foodcourt.  We went to the mini golf at Christchurch.  It was hard for me to play mini gold because I didn’t know how to play.  I got the highest number on the mini golf so that’s why I lose.
